Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy is a magical time in a person’s life. However, with all the physical, hormonal and emotional changes, it is normal to not always be in a state of bliss. The benefits of massage during pregnancy can be profound. Not only can it help to ease the discomfort of physical changes in the body, it can do wonders for the emotional state. In recent years, medical science has discovered how great of an impact a pregnant mom’s chronic stress level can have on their growing child’s development, for example. PreNatal Massage has been proven to actually lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone), in turn benefitting the child’s brain development. A happy momma is a happy baby. During a session with Becca, you will comfortably lay on your side for the majority of the massage to ensure optimal blood flow to the baby. Deep pressure, if desired, can be applied safely throughout much of the body to your level of comfort, particularly shoulders, back and hips, although care is taken to avoid hard pressure on the legs.  Labor inducing acupressure points will be also be avoided until the 40th week of pregnancy. If you have any questions or concerns about receiving a Prenatal massage, please do not hesitate to contact Becca with your questions.

Postnatal
For some people, massage can be even more important postpartum than it was during pregnancy. Whether you delivered vaginally or by C-Section, your entire body has truly achieved something remarkable. Hormonal, emotional and physical changes can feel even more abrupt than they did while pregnant. It is important to remember that as a new mom, self-care will actually benefit your newborn in the long run. Some benefits of postpartum massage include better sleep, hormone regulation, increased circulation to aid in the elimination of excess fluid, reduced swelling, and healing from C-section. Breastfeeding is also favorably effected by massage in stimulating the release of oxytocin (the “love hormone”) which triggers breastmilk production, and lowering the levels of cortisol (stress hormone.) A postnatal massage can also include work on your abdomen to help the uterus to return to its prepregnancy size. We can also work on your C-Section scar if you would like. If you have had a C-Section, you must be cleared by your doctor before receiving massage (usually 6 weeks). Otherwise, you can enjoy a massage as soon after delivery as you would like.

Deep Tissue Sculpting Massage
Deep Tissue Sculpting is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body, helping to release chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. My goal is to use the maximum amount of pressure possible while keeping the muscle in a relaxed state. This is achieved by making friends with the nervous system through a gentle warm up, and increasing pressure slowly. It is a misconception that in order to be effective, massage should hurt. My aim is to use pressure that feels effective and therapeutic, but is never painful.  Due to the nature of this work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you always feel comfortable.

Oncology Massage
Oncology Massage can be a wonderful addition to your self care regimen to help reduce anxiety, fatigue, and pain. Whether you are currently undergoing treatment, or have been cancer-free for years, it is important to seek out a massage therapist who has had specific training in this area. Oncology Massage is not a separate massage technique, but an adaptive approach based on an assessment of your healing journey, present and past. For example, pressure will be less intense for someone who is feeling fatigued from chemotherapy. For those who have undergone radiation, either recently or in the past, special care will be taken to help support the lymphatic system, adapting so as not to trigger swelling or exacerbate lymphedema. An Oncology Massage session will often include modalities such as Lymphatic Drainage and Swedish Massage. Visit https://www.s4om.org/ for more information

Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular therapy is a system of massage techniques that were developed in the 1930’s by Dr. Stanley Lief in England. It uses a holistic approach towards healing, emphasizing and stimulating the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Neuromuscular therapy also enhances the function of joints and muscles, and accelerates the overall healing process by facilitating the release of endorphins.
Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that cleanses and balances the energy system in the body. As a result, the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum health. During a session, I work directly with your energy field to remove blockages, detoxify your system, and restore your vital life force energy. Reiki utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between us. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.
